According to the Washington Post newspaper, a water main break in Alexandria is likely to cause traffic delays in Thursday morning’s commute, as some area roads are closed.
The break happened Wednesday evening near Edsall Road and Van Dorn Street.
The newspaper added that Crews were working on the roadway early Thursday morning but it was not known exactly when the road would reopen. Drivers are advised to avoid the area.
Officials showed on Twitter pictures of the roadway crumbling under the pressure of the water. The Alexandria Police department said in a Twitter message: “Water is a powerful force; Edsall Road is crumbling under the pressure, gone in many spots.”
