According to the Daily Mail newspaper , Donald Trump’s campaign has cost him $43million out of his own pocket – with $7.5million of that coming in April alone – new campaign finance reports filed late Friday show.
Factoring in money from other sources he spent about $56million up to the start of May, when Ted Cruz John Kasich dropped out, spending a total of $9.4million in April.
Big-ticket items that month included $2.6million for advertisements – the biggest single expense – plus more than $930,000 on direct mail and roughly $585,000 in airfare paid to Trump’s TAG Air Inc.
While much of Trump’s money has come from his own pocket, he reported making about $1.7 million in donations last month – mostly through merchandise such as the red ‘Make America Great Again’ ball caps, and online contributions.
The newspaper added he only began developing a team of fundraisers recently, after he became the presumptive GOP nominee.
